God and I have an understanding: we talk to each other about anything. I figure God knows what I’m thinking so I might as well pray about it, talk to Him about it. (Sometimes I don’t even have words to express what it going on inside, but that’s okay. He still listens and understands. ) [...]

hugs for a teacher

The crumpled tissues wiped away the kinda tears that make every effort, every prayer, every long night, and every trial seem small and meaningless. They were the happy-sad-kinda-tears. The tears that meant great celebration was going on in heaven. a true hug for any teacher.

The Christian girls from the secundaria class decided to have a bonfire on Sunday evening. They burnt all of their “bad things” and shared testimonies of how Jesus changed their lives. Linda and I just sat there and rejoiced with them. I love to watch Jesus work!

Nineteen young girls –around thirteen years old—visited us last night. They awkwardly filed in to the house, awkwardly drank their hot chocolate, and awkwardly smiled. I yawned. The evening dragged before me. We sat in Linda’s bedroom, all twenty-one of us. Linda opened it for anyone to share. Diana, the girl who got saved [...]
Daddy’s Arms

Emily flew into Linda’s arms, sobbing. Emily’s father disappeared when she was 5. Today, she discovered a classmate Ronnie’s dad disappeared (they think he was kidnapped). It struck close to home. She kept crying, “Why? Why does God allow it to happen again? Why another dad? I don’t understand God.” Silently, I asked the same [...]

“And daily people were added….” I’m back in Acts, as I watch the quiet work of God sweep down and melt the hearts of young people. Six young people became Christians since Friday: one on Friday night, three on Sunday, and two on Monday. Yesterday, right after church, Linda got a phone call. More girls [...]
Reality Check

There’s a huge danger in writing home about exciting things like revivals. We as humans are so prone to lift up anything like revival on a high pedestal. We become curious hungry “groupies” of any work of God. Sometimes, it feels like buzzing flies around a bride at her wedding. People then get discontent [...]
Jesus Meets Girl

I used to be excited about watching people come to Jesus. It waned as I continually saw the anxiety, complicated theories, pride and confusion often mixed in with leading someone to Jesus. Maybe it’s like seeing a hundred botched deliveries in the maternity ward, resulting in mangled, deformed babies and sweating, fretful doctors. You don’t [...]

Funny, the person who is most cynical towards the term revival, finds herself in the middle of a beautiful work of God in Mexico. And, the revival looks nothing like she ever saw before. I laugh at God’s sense of humor. I know people deseprate for revival–but, it eludes them. They are grasping for the [...]
A Chance Encounter?

I heard a knock at the door. A twenty-something man stood at our door–baggy Penn State sweater, jeans and long black hair. He timidly, with a thick accent, asked for directions. I didn’t know how to direct him; neither did mom. We offered for him to come in and use Map Quest on the computer. [...]
